O trabalho tem ainda o apoio de músicos, esportistas e influenciadores digitais que já passaram ou passam pelo problema, dividindo suas experiências.

Os usuários de redes sociais serão convidados a postar o ícone do girassol para mostrar que estão dispostos a falar sobre o assunto #depressaosemtabu. Depressão e suicídio

Segundo Elizabeth, para tratar a depressão e evitar o suicídio, o primeiro passo é ver a depressão como uma doença que precisa ser tratada. “Precisamos criar uma atmosfera de confiança para o paciente se sentir à vontade para dizer que tem a doença e legitimar o que ele sente como sintoma de algo que pode ser tratado. Essa é uma forma de encorajar a busca por ajuda adequada, criando um entorno social mais empático e melhor informado para ajudar essa pessoa”, disse. 

De acordo com as informações da Upjohn, mais de 90% dos casos de suicídio estão associados a distúrbios mentais e transtornos do humor. A depressão é o diagnóstico mais frequente, aparecendo em 36% das vítimas. O aumento dos casos entre os mais novos e com prevalência entre os homens faz da depressão a quarta maior causa de suicídio entre jovens no país. Outras doenças que podem ser tratadas, como o alcoolismo, a esquizofrenia e transtornos de personalidade, também afetam esses pacientes e por isso afirma-se que o suicídio pode ser evitado na maioria das vezes. 

Dados da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) mostram que o Brasil é o país com maior percentual de depressão na América Latina, chegando a 5,8% da população, o que corresponde a 12 milhões de brasileiros. A taxa é maior do que o valor global, que é de 4,4%. Igualmente maior do que em outros países, a taxa de suicídio entre adolescentes de 10 a 19 anos aumentou 24% de 2006 a 2015. A cada 46 minutos alguém tira a própria vida no Brasil.

O psiquiatra Teng Chei Tung,  coordenador dos Serviços de Pronto-Socorro e Interconsultas do Instituto de Psiquiatria do Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo (HC-USP) e vice-coordenador da Comissão de Emergência Psiquiátrica da Associação Brasileira de Psiquiatria (ABP), explicou que a alta incidência entre os jovens está ligada à grande expectativa externa e interna de que eles se comportem como adultos, mesmo sem ter ainda as habilidades de um adulto, e à pressão de que o adolescente seja pleno, potente, competente e reconhecido.

“Então ele faz as coisas, erra e se frustra. Nessas frustrações os jovens podem entrar na depressão. Os preconceitos são os mesmos e são agravados pela desinformação. Para o jovem existe a influência do pensamento de que a saúde mental é só uma questão social, existencial e psicológica”, afirmou. 

Teng disse que sentir tristeza é normal e que a frustração sempre traz alguma tristeza passageira, mas é preciso que as pessoas próximas fiquem atentas para perceber quando esse estado já se tornou uma depressão. Segundo ele, a tristeza é algo que gera introspecção, provoca reflexão e crescimento, mas o deprimido fica introspectivo por vários dias e semanas. 

“Um dos parâmetros é quando há sofrimento excessivo e quando começa a causar real prejuízo. Afeta as relações interpessoais, produtividade no trabalho, ou sofrimento individual, ou seja, a pessoa está sofrendo mais do que que precisaria naquela situação. Não é que não pode ter tristeza e emoção, mas isso não pode prejudicar a pessoa a ponto de afetá-la fisicamente”, destacou.

Para Teng, a melhor forma de falar sobre a depressão é deixar claro que ela é uma doença que apresenta alterações biológicas e fisiológicas, envolvendo fatores genéticos e estruturais, o que significa que a pessoa nasce com a tendência de desenvolver o quadro depressivo. O tratamento inclui, principalmente, melhorar o estilo de vida. “Quem tem depressão precisa se equilibrar e cuidar da saúde, para não ter de novo a doença”, disse o médico.
