A pesquisa conduzida pela Rede de Cooperação para a Sustentabilidade Gaia, que é projeto iniciado na Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso (UFMT- campus Sinop), está mapeando a produção, aquisição e consumo de alimentos orgânicos e agroecológicos em Mato Grosso. O formulário eletrônico, que pode ser preenchido por consumidores e produtores, busca-se obter informações sobre a oferta desses alimentos no estado, sobre a demanda e hábitos dos consumidores. O objetivo é ter embasamento para nortear o fortalecimento de uma rede envolvendo produtores, comércio e consumidores, aumentando a oferta e o consumo de alimentos saudáveis no estado.
A Rede Gaia nasceu na UFMT e conta integrantes de diferentes instituições de ensino, pesquisa e com a iniciativa privada, além de profissionais autônomos. Atualmente, fazem parte do projeto a Unemat, Embrapa Agrossilvipastoril, Escola Técnica Estadual de Educação Profissional e Tecnológica de Sinop (ETE Sinop), Instituto Federal de Mato Grosso (IFMT), Comachio Consultoria Nutrição e Medicina Veterinária e Arca Multincubadora.
Atualmente, a iniciativa apoia agricultores, tanto na zona rural, quando em áreas urbanas e periurbanas. Os integrantes do projeto auxiliam, ainda, na implantação e manejo de hortas escolares e na formação de profissionais, além de contribuírem para a formação de uma rede ligando produtores de alimentos saudáveis aos consumidores.
O projeto conta, ainda, com uma área demonstrativa de sistema agroflorestal instalada na UFMT, onde estudantes de graduação podem colocar em prática o conteúdo aprendido em sala de aula, antes de levarem até os produtores. A informação é da assessoria.
